This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.
The remuneration range for this role is $80,369 to $113,462 (including KiwiSaver) depending on skills and experience.
The opportunity
As Deputy Team Leader Water, you'll support the Team Leader to deliver safe, reliable and high-quality water supply services across the Wellington region. You'll provide day-to-day leadership to field crews, coordinate planned and reactive maintenance activities, and take a hands-on role in complex operational work. This is a great opportunity to develop your leadership capability while helping ensure essential water services are delivered to our communities.
Lead and coach water crews, providing on-site guidance, training and mentoring
Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance activities to meet service delivery targets
Support team scheduling, resource planning and operational decision-making when the Team Leader is absent
Promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture through active site leadership and quality audits
Respond to complex water supply issues and support emergency and incident response activities
About you
To be successful in this role you will bring:
Full New Zealand Class 1 and Class 2 driver's licences
Hold a NZ Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 4)
Experience operating and maintaining water supply infrastructure
Strong leadership, coaching and team development capability
Sound knowledge of health and safety practices, plant and equipment, and digital work management systems

About us
From 1 July 2026, a new chapter in water services begins. Tiaki Wai will take over responsibility for providing Three Waters Services to approximately 433,000 residents across the Wellington metro regions.
Tiaki Wai will own the water assets it operates giving it greater independence to manage and improve water services for current and future communities, Wellington Water employees will transition into this new council-owned entity.
