Join our Drainage team and help keep Wellington’s wastewater and stormwater networks operating safely and effectively. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills, gain industry qualifications, and work alongside experienced professionals delivering critical services to our communities.
No two days are the same. You'll be involved in maintenance, repairs, emergency response, customer interactions, and network improvement works while developing your technical knowledge and practical experience in the drainage reticulation industry.
As part of the role you will be involved in:
Maintaining, repairing, and unblocking wastewater and stormwater networks
Installing and repairing drainage pipes, mains, valves, and manhole covers
Carrying out jetting, rodding, root cutting, CCTV inspections, and network maintenance activities
Operating small plant and equipment safely and effectively
Reading and interpreting utility plans and network information
Completing compliance checks, risk assessments, and work records using mobile technology
Participating in the standby and callout roster
Providing excellent customer service and communicating professionally with the public
Following all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements at all times.

About you
To be successful in this role you will bring:
Experience carrying out basic drainage network maintenance and repairs
A Class 1 and Class 2 Full New Zealand Driver Licence
W, T and R endorsements (or willingness to obtain)
Strong communication and customer service skills
The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team environment
A proactive approach to health, safety, and environmental
Holds the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works Level 3 (Stormwater and Wastewater Pipeline Construction and Maintenance). Or willingness to work towards.
The flexibility to work overtime and on a roster than includes shift work/ on call

Wellington Water works in partnership with Fulton Hogan (an Alliance) to improve three water services across the Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa Regions. The Alliance outcomes are delivered through a combined workforce between Wellington Water and Fulton Hogan, which enables shared resourcing and innovative solutions for the regions water networks.
From 1 July 2026, a new chapter in water services begins. Tiaki Wai will take over responsibility for providing Three Waters Services to approximately 433,000 residents across the Wellington metro regions. Tiaki Wai will own the water assets it operates giving it greater independence to manage and improve water services for current and future communities.
