This is a full-time position for 40 hours per week, the remuneration range for this role is $117,099 to $165,316 (including KiwiSaver), appointment remuneration will be dependent on skills and experience.
The opportunity
In this exciting new position you will pave the direction and culture of a team responsible for the reliability and performance of Wellington’s three waters network. As Team Leader Network Engineers, you’ll provide both technical leadership and people management — ensuring your team focuses on high-value operational and improvement projects while maintaining strong engineering oversight and safe delivery. You’ll be a key connector across Wellington Water, helping to shape the way we work today and into the future.
In this role, you will:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of network engineers to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes
- Oversee a significant programme of minor works capital projects and operational investigations , ensuring reliability and compliance of the water networks.
- Provide technical guidance and approvals for operational and design activities
- Build strong relationships across the organisation and with councils, contractors, and regulators to enable effective collaboration
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives and standardised engineering practices across the team
About you
To be successful in this role you will bring:
- A relevant engineering qualification (CPEng desirable)
- Demonstrated experience leading a technical or engineering team
- Proven experience working at a senior engineering level in the water or utilities sector
- Strong technical knowledge of network operations, asset management, and maintenance practices
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills
- A proactive, improvement-focused approach that balances technical depth with people leadership
