This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.

The remuneration range for this role is NZ$86,230 - NZ$121,736 (including KiwiSaver), and depending on skills and experience
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the operation, maintenance and improvement of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks across the Wellington region.
Working closely with frontline service delivery teams, contractors, councils, and stakeholders, you will provide technical expertise to support network performance, investigate operational issues, manage projects, and respond to incidents and emergencies affecting essential water services.
You will play a key role in identifying network improvements, developing maintenance strategies, and delivering operational and capital works programmes that help ensure safe, reliable and resilient water services for our communities.
This role is ideally suited to an engineer with experience in three waters, utilities, civil infrastructure or asset management who enjoys solving complex problems and seeing the direct impact of their work in the field.
Provide engineering and operational support for drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks
Investigate complex operational, asset performance and customer service issues and develop practical solutions
Plan, scope and deliver operational and capital improvement projects from concept through to completion
Support incident and emergency response activities to maintain continuity of essential water services
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
A relevant engineering qualification and a current full driver's licence
Experience in three waters, utilities, civil infrastructure or asset management environments
An understanding of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks and their operational requirements
Experience in investigating asset performance issues and delivering practical engineering solutions
The ability to build trusted relationships with contractors, regulators, councils and customers
Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
A commitment to health, safety and environmental best practice
Please note: This role focuses on drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. Applications from candidates with experience in three waters, utilities, civil infrastructure, or closely related operational engineering will be strongly preferred.

About us
Wellington Water Ltd is the professional water services provider across Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa. Our job is to provide safe and healthy drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, and ensure the stormwater network is well managed. We’re a multi-council owned entity, tasked to manage the infrastructure and deliver water services to our communities. From 1 July 2026, a new chapter in water services begins. Tiaki Wai will take over responsibility for providing Three Waters Services to approximately 433,000 residents across the Wellington metro regions.
Tiaki Wai will own the water assets it operates, giving it greater independence to manage and improve water services for current and future communities. Wellington Water employees will transition into this new council-owned entity.
