We have multiple fixed-term positions available to offer as part of our 2025/2026 Summer Intern Programme. The internship will be from Monday 17 November 2025 to Friday 6th February 2026.
During your employment you will be paid the current living wage.
The opportunity
Our summer internship programme is an opportunity for students who are looking to do real work that will support our community. We will provide a great learning environment where you will get to work on tasks that will help you in your personal and professional development.
During your internship no two days will be the same, and you will be exposed to a variety of engineering work programmes and have the opportunity to see large projects and operational facilities that ensure the Wellington community receives safe, reliable and compliant water services.
We have internship availability across a range of different teams that have a focus on treatment plant, network, development & consenting, design and asset management. Day to day your tasks may include:
- Assisting engineers to solve broadly-defined engineering problems
- Attending incidents related to the water system and creating dynamic solutions
- Ingesting, improving and interacting with various data types
- Supporting the team with process improvements for team-specific initiatives
- Participating in general and field investigations
Internships are available for students studying in New Zealand towards:
- Engineering (Civil or Environmental)
- Engineering (Chemical or Process)
- Engineering (Mechanical)
You will be required to be working towards an NCEA recognised postgraduate qualification at Level 7 or higher, such as a Bachelor or Masters Degree

About us
Wellington Water is the professional water services provider across Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa. Our job is to provide safe and healthy drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, and ensure the stormwater network is well managed.
