Who are we:

We manage the drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services from source to sea for our councils – Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Wellington city councils, South Wairarapa District Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council. We partner with the community, engineering consultants and contractors on projects, water conservation, operations work and asset planning.

Where you come in:

We have several fixed-term positions available to offer as part of our 2021/2022 Summer Intern Programme.

If you can commit to working full-time hours starting 22nd November 2021 to the 12th February 2022, then Wellington Water could be the place for you to gain insight into the exciting water and wastewater industry and gather experience towards your chosen field of study.

The development of interns for us is an important part of the future of the water industry within New Zealand. Our summer internship programme brings new energy, ideas, and opportunities for growth to the wider Wellington Water team and our customers.

The following positions are available for suitably qualified tertiary students:

  • Engineering (Civil or Environmental)
  • Engineering (Chem/Mat or Process)
  • Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Environmental Science
  • Urban or Statutory Planning or Resource Management

We are looking for students who can apply their skills with a great attitude to do real work with us to take our business forward.

While we are located in Petone, the roles may be based from Pomare, Porirua, Rongoti or the South Wairarapa.

Our water treatment plants are in Te Maura, Wainuiomata and the South Wairarapa. So unless your role is based on one of the other areas which are serviced by public transport, you will need your own transport with a full drivers licence.

What Wellington Water can offer you?

We provide a great learning environment, where you will do real work that will help in your personal and professional development.

The application process:

All applications should be submitted online through the careers website, attaching a Cover Letter and a CV that includes your academic transcript, along with answers to 4 competency based questions.

To be eligible to apply you must be at least in your 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study.

While we value academic achievement, we will also be assessing your community engagement, any work experience, sporting or leisure activities.

Once the application period closes, we will shortlist candidates, if you are successfully shortlisted, we will have a telephone or teams interview with you during which you can demonstrate your skills, experience, and personal attributes.
