Who are we:

We manage the drinking water, wastewater and storm water services from source to sea for our councils – Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Wellington city councils, South Wairarapa District Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council. We partner with the community and engineering consultants and contractors on projects, water conservation, operations work and asset planning.

Where you come in:

The Team Leader Land Development Inspections and Connections position sits within our Network Strategy and Planning group, who are responsible for developing the three waters strategy with a 100-year planning period. 

As the Team Leader Land Development Inspections and Connections, lead a team of Land Development Water and Drainage Officers and Engineers in processing Resource Management Act and Building Act consenting matters (where relevant). You will lead the team and undertake a high component of continuing to “do” work, on development inspections and connections, and permitting, while working with our stakeholders, managing escalations, support business and financial planning, and implementing continual improvements. 

You will manage Wellington Water’s 3 Waters (water, wastewater and stormwater) advice and requirements relating to new land development site works and consenting matters.  

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Post graduate qualification in engineering, trade qualification or similar work experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years post qualification experience working at a senior level preferably in 3 waters or land development – e.g. in infrastructure, compliance, or construction.    
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills that leads to strengthened capability in both what staff do and how they do.
  • A collaborative mindset – you will understand what it takes to bring people together to achieve results.
  • An understanding of the detail while focusing on the big picture.
  • The ability to communicate and build strong relationships with stakeholders, so they feel well informed and have a high level of trust.
  • Thorough knowledge of three water network inspection and compliance testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of the application of Council Codes of Practice, Regional Standard Water Specification, NZS4404.
  • Knowledge of consenting under the Resource Management Act and Building Act.
  • Knowledge of the Local Government Act and Water policies and bylaws.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
