Senior Operations Technician – Water & Wastewater

Who are we:

We manage the drinking water, wastewater and storm water services from source to sea for our client councils, who are the Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Wellington City Council, South Wairarapa District Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council. We partner with the community, engineering consultants and contractors on water services projects, water conservation, operations work and asset planning.

Where do you come in:

This role sits within Wellington the Network Management group, who are responsible for the operation and maintenance of treatment facilities for water and wastewater. 

As an experienced Senior Operations Technician, you will be part of the team responsible for delivering safe drinking water and minimising the environmental impact of operational activities.

Based in South Wairarapa, this role would primarily be responsible for the operation of the Featherston, Greytown, Martinborough water and wastewater treatment facilities. This is a key role in assisting the team leader to plan, organise and coordinate all activities relating to the production, treatment, service delivery and maintenance of treatment plants.

To be successful in this role, you will have in interest in:

  • Operational management of treatment plants
  • Working with the Team Leader to develop effective assignments, knowledge sharing and development of team members
  • Ensuring the environmental impact of work is minimal
  • Liaising and coordinating with external contractors
  • Ensuring equipment and systems are operating at maximum efficiency

Qualifications and role requirements:

  • National Certificate/Diploma in water treatment as well as wastewater treatment
  • Three plus years in treatment plant operations
  • Thorough understanding of treatment processes and experience in the operation of treatment plants and associated infrastructure
  • Through understanding of quality and environmental management systems
  • Current NZ driver’s licence

It is expected that applicants would live in the Wairarapa and are available to be on a rotating after hours call-out roster.
